Review by Daniel Gray:
A night of progressive rock at Islington Academy…..
The Pineapple Thief opened up the night in perfect fashion. They hail from the UK and have been doing the rounds for 10 years, but this is the first time I’ve heard them. I’d definitely recommend you give them a listen if you are a fan of Anathema, Porcupine Tree or many others in the modern day Prog Rock scene. Despite the quality of Riversides musicians, I found that TPT were by far the more interesting of the two bands on offer tonight to someone who is unfamiliar with both.
Being the only show in the UK on their current tour, fans have travelled from all over the UK and Europe to see the show, and the turn out at the Academy is way better then I expected. Along with the good atmosphere in the place, the sound was also set up perfectly highlighting the technical quality of the musicians. But for someone unfamiliar with their songs, things started to get repetitive and boring quite quickly. I’m sure I would have enjoyed this a lot more if I could have sang along like pretty much everyone was doing., it was obvious that for the real fans this was a night to remember.
